Why we are the Housing Market

A lot of people will insist of talking about this thing called the housing market as if it were some kind of force which is not in any way connected to anything but itself- and most especially not to the actions of ordinary citizens such as ourselves. For the people who speak in those kinds of terms, they may be living in some sort of academic ivory tower. But for the people who live on solid ground and deal in solid real estate, it is crucial that we all take as much responsibility as is humanly possible for the housing market in which we are all contributors. For everyone who either buys or sells real estate, this is of critical importance, because without this level of personal accountability it can quickly become a total mess to deal with property in the first place. It is imperative that people all take the responsibility for themselves, as well as for the environment which they contribute to.

We are the housing market because everyone in some way participates in real estate. As the old saying goes, if you live on Earth, you are contributing to the real estate world in some form or another. Someone is getting paid for the land on which you live, no matter where it is (with the exception of some private islands, but that is a beast of an entirely different color). It does not matter if you rent, if you are an owner, if you are buying on contract or what have you, you are a part of this.

So when it comes down to someone who will talk in a semi-bored tone about this housing market thing, it is crucial that everyone understands that there is no “housing market” per se. It is all about the individual who lives in society and contributes to the real estate world (as in, every individual) actually acknowledging that theirs is a palpable contribution to something bigger than themselves, but that they are intimately connected to. When we admit this to ourselves, we have got to take responsibility for it.
